| Why does my pet need regular grooming? If you have a groom able pet (Bichon Frise', Cocker, Long haired cat, Poodle, etc.) the grooming should be a regular routine so the dog gets accustomed to this type of handling. If your pet is not used to grooming it can be very traumatic. Regular grooming helps keep the hair from becoming matted, removes dead skin cells and excess hair. This helps if you or your family has allergies. Your pet is clean and pleasant smelling making him more comfortable and more huggable. Regular grooming can stop problems before they start. For example: keeping nails neatly trimmed helps prevent foot related problems and keeps you from being scratched. It also can prevent nails from breaking, a painful injury often caused by catching a long nail in carpeting. When grooming your pet, the groomer goes over every inch of the body several times. Often a groomer can spot a problem such as tumor, swollen lymph nodes, ear infections, soars or parasites that you may have overlooked, alerting you to see your veterinarian early. A routine visit to the groomer can help socialize your pet by exposing them to new people, sounds, smells and other pets. How long will the grooming take? Grooming time depends on many factors: the breed of pet, there coat condition and the type of style you want are just a few. Your groomer can estimate the time needed when they see your pet. I've had my pet groomed elsewhere and they came home with nicks and burns on the skin. Accidents can happen but most can be avoided. Some pets have overly sensitive skin and develop irritation from clippers. Call us if this happens and we will make a notation on your pet's record, avoiding any repeat problems. We may not be able to trim your pet as short was you want. I've heard that grooming is very stressful on the dog. Not if the pet is introduced to it properly. Brush and comb your pet regularly at home to get them used to being handled. Start your puppy or kitten early and make grooming a fun experience loaded with lots of praise. Do not linger when dropping them off at the grooming parlor and please don't show that you are anxious or upset. Your pet will read your emotions and get scared. My pet has kidney problems and needs to drink and urinate often. Will my pet be given this opportunity? Your pet's help and welfare is our biggest concern. If you pet has any special needs, just let us know. We will be happy to follow your instructions. I've heard that cage driers get very hot and that pets can suffer from heat exhaustion. Occasionally we hear news reports of pets being over heated at grooming salons due to untrained groomers and the improper use of cage driers. Accidents such as these can be completely avoided and should never be tolerated. Most of the pets we groom are fluff dried by hand, but there are a few breeds that need to dry naturally to maintain their proper coat texture. Many of today's driers use a high volume of air flow with little or no heat. This gives your pet a chance to relax and rest and is completely safe. We have only the newest driers that have timers to insure your pet's safety. How can I make sure my groomer understands how I want my pet groomed? Please cut her "Short", but not too short. This is one of the most common instructions that groomers hear, but, it often results in confusion. Since different people have different ideas about what exactly constitutes "too short", you may be disappointed. Our suggestion is to bring a photo in showing a pet or your pet groomed the way you want. Can you take too much off? Our blades are designed for the length of the hair left on the pet. And the same blade will often cut different types and textures of hair slightly different lengths. Instead, try to imagine the length of the hair that you would like your pet left with. Short, but not shaved. There are many different lengths of blades that can give a close cut to leaving over a half inch of hair. There are also blade attachments that can leave up to 2 inches of coat on your pet. Confusion arises from what you mean when you say shaved. If you would like a complete scissor cut, than ask for that. Keep in mind that it takes more time and will cost more. |
